Clarinet Gift Guide: Perfect Presents for Every Budget

If you're anything like me, you stress over buying the perfect gifts. To make it easier, I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite clarinets and accessories. Cute pencils, music-themed erasers, or clarinet keychains are always fun, but if you are looking for practical must-haves or performance-level upgrades, you'll find something in this clarinet gift guide that any clarinetist will love.

10. A Silk Swab

Hodge Silk Swab

Silk swabs are a must-have for keeping the inside of the clarinet dry and extending the life of its pads. Plus, they make sure your clarinetist stays spit-free while playing! These Hodge swabs come in several fun colors!

9. Reed Case

Reeds are fragile and expensive! A reed case, even an inexpensive one, will improve the life and sound of your clarinet reeds. I use these: D'Addario reed guards.

8. Music Book

New music is always fun! If you’re shopping for a high school or college clarinetist, Rose Études are a classic choice. For something more modern and approachable, Finger Fitness Études by Dr. Kristen Denny-Chambers are really fun to play. You can find her work at clarinetplayground.com.

7. Reeds

Every clarinetist needs reeds—lots of them! I recommend Vandoren reeds for my clarinet students. Just be sure to ask your clarinetist (or their teacher) what reed strength they use.

6. Clarinet Stand

A clarinet stand is a safe way to set down their instrument during rehearsals or practice without having to disassemble it every time they want to take a break. This Hercules stand is one of my favorites.

Korg Metronome/Tuner

5. Tuner/Metronome Combo

Every musician needs a metronome and a tuner.  I love this combo by Korg. With its clip-on mic, it can even pick up your sound in a noisy band room.

Vandoren Optimum Ligature

4. Ligature

We’ve come a long way since musicians made their own ligatures with string. The Vandoren Optimum is a favorite of mine because it allows for easy articulations in the upper register and it comes in fancy colors. Shop for ligatures here.

3. Music Stand

Every musician needs a good, adjustable music stand. Taping your sheet music to your wall (like I did when I was a kid) is less than ideal.

🎁 Splurge-Worthy Gifts

2. Vandoren Mouthpiece

A mouthpiece upgrade can have a huge impact on clarinet playing. Vandoren M30 Lyre, 5RV Lyre, and the BD5 are the top picks for my students. Don’t forget to pair it with a fresh mouthpiece patch. Shop for clarinet mouthpieces here.

1. Shiny, New Clarinet

Looking for something truly special? If your clarinetist is ready for an upgrade from their beginner model, the Jupiter 1100S is a great choice (it's what I play.)

If you're unsure about which clarinet to choose, I’m happy to help hand-select the perfect one for you! Shoot me an email and we can chat about it.
